An industry friend and I were discussing last week, the subtle (and not so subtle) shifts in the Netflix offerings thrown up to users.

In the early-mid streaming age thus far,  one of the trophies was becoming the new HBO, or ruling Prestige TV; that drew legions of viewers who found the glut of premium content irresistible (I am one of them).
Now the need is, apparently and increasingly, to become the new ‘GEC’* cable channel replacement, providing hours of diverse and easy watching, a streaming version of the lean-back experience.

📺 what happens to prestigeTV, does it get relegated to a niche, premium tier offering again? And, the discovery/curstion around prestige shows might become paramount again

📊 At the same time, as a recent piece by Vulture’s Joe Adalian highlights, the numbers around library show viewing from Nielsen are not quite as straightforward as the headlines would have you believe. Definitely do see the breakdown.

🥔 So where are all the long-season, multi-season ‘network’ shows on streaming? I think Netflix has made strides in that space with unscripted, and scripted might be round the corner.
