AI & the Entertainment Industry

A study by CVL Economics is not just some doomsday scenario. In raising some pertinent points, this piece from the LA Times got us particularly thinking about the impact on the entry level roles.

🪜The entertainment and creative industries , maybe more than most others, see talent and foundational skills truly blossoming on the job (so many of us recall the first few years as a tornado of learning!). More specifically, the learning is not just about technical skills (which AI can take over in increasingly more scenarios), but a pathway to building creative expression and finding a voice. Technical skills being an enabler, if you will.

🧭 What happens to that pathway?

I don’t doubt new ways to build talent will emerge, and new pathways will be built, but I am equally certain there will be a period of turbulence while  this is being (quite organically and haphazardly) figured out. Which could well mean losing a mini-generation of prospective creatives.

🤖 The intersection between creativity and technology is always to be a delicate one, but surely- nurturing the next generation of creatives is fundamental to a healthy ecosystem for both.

🌱 Or is this already sorted? Do university students today already have clear, promising routes to enter the entertainment & creative industries? Routes that cater for the disruption and upheaval that AI will cause?
